Guna (Sanskrit for “string” and “quality”) — according to Hinduism, there are three gunas – three origins of material nature: sattva guna (guna of purity), rajas guna (guna of passion) and tamas guna (guna of ignorance). Like a cord of three strings, the gunas enlace a person with illusion and determine his life.
