Guru (Sanskrit for “teacher”) — is a spiritual teacher in Hinduism and Buddhism. The first gurus were the legendary sages (rishis) who began to transfer their knowledge to the members of the first three varnas. A guru is highly respected in India. Lots of Hindus spend years searching for their “own” guru.
