Indra – God of war, storms and rainfall in Hinduism. It is Indra to whom the majority of the Rigveda‘s hymns are devoted. But later on, he ceased to play such an important role in the Hindu pantheon. The main deed of Indra was his victory over the demon Vritra and the following liberation of the Sun and rivers. In this myth Vritra is identified with the chaos and Indra – with the cosmic order. Indra uses Airavata elephant as a vehicle.
