Kumbh Mela

Kumbh Mela (Sanskrit for “fair of pots”) — is a Hindu pilgrimage to sacred places with taking a dip in the holy rivers as a culmination. The origin of the holiday is connected with the fight between Gods and Asuras for the pot of amhrita (the nectar of immortality). During the battle four drops of the elixir were spilled at four places: Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. In these cities the Kumbh Mela is held alternatively every three years.
