Maha Shivaratri (Sanskrit for “Great Night of Shiva”) — is a sacred festival of Hinduism devoted to Shiva, one of the great Gods of Trimurti. Celebration continues the whole day and night. It is said in the Puranas that he who keeps away during this great night, will acquire happiness in the paradise. Hindus sing hymns praising Shiva, perform puja and take a dip in holy waters. The festival takes place between February and March.
