Smriti (Sanskrit for “that which is remembered”) — are considered to be additional to Shruti sacred Hindu scriptures. In contrast to Shruti, Smriti texts have no divine origin. They were created after the Vedas about 500 BC. These texts include the epic poems the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, the Puranas and the Agamas.
