Vedanta (Sanskrit for “the appendix to the Vedic hymns”) — is one of the six Hindu orthodox schools of philosophy (astika). It was founded ca. III century BC. The followers of the Vedanta tradition placed emphasis not on the rituals, but on meditation and philosophy of the Upanishads.
